Hearing Services FAQs

Hearing Aid Repairs BG Image
Please find below our most commonly asked questions regarding our hearing services. If you do not find what you are looking for we are always happy to answer your questions. Please call us or use the contact form below of this page to get in touch.

Do I need a referral from my doctor before I can make an appointment?

No, you don’t need a referral from a doctor to be able to see an audiologist. We will ask for your doctor’s details at the appointment, but this is just so we can send them a copy of your test results. If you do not want us to send a letter to your doctor please just let us know.

Do you have to send a letter to my doctor?

No, we will only send a letter to your doctor, along with your test results, if you give us permission. We normally recommend allowing us to contact your doctor, as hearing loss can be related to other health conditions and so it is useful for your doctor to stay informed, but this is entirely up to you.

Can you test children’s hearing?

Are there any Medicare rebates available for hearing tests?

Normally there isn’t a Medicare rebate available for seeing an audiologist. The exceptions are:
  • if your GP has referred you to us on a complex care plan, or
  • an Ear Nose and Throat surgeon or neurologist has referred you to us directly.
Please be aware that the cost of seeing your GP or a specialist can be more expensive than the amount Medicare will rebate, so unless you already have one of these referrals we do not suggest you go out of your way to get one.

Are there any Private Health Insurance rebates available for hearing tests?

Every Private Health Fund is different. Most don’t give rebates on hearing tests, but there are some that do, depending on your level of cover. We recommend calling yours up and asking if you are covered for hearing tests before you come to your appointment. Then you’ll know if you will be covered and for how much. We also recommend you ask them at the same time if you are covered for hearing aids and for how much, as most Private Health Funds do offer some amount back on aids and this can be helpful to know if the audiologist needs to discuss hearing aids with you.

If I am a Pensioner or Veteran am I entitled to free hearing services?

If you are an Australian Pensioner or Veteran you should be entitled to free hearing services. Please see our Free Australian Pensioner and Veteran Hearing Services page for details.
